YTT Tribe Reclaims Diablo Canyon’s Nuclear Land | Earth Focus | PBS SoCal
The Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant sits on the ancestral homelands of the yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini Northern Chumash Tribe. When the plant was posed to close, the YTT Tribe developed a land back proposal. This plan became less clear when California decided to reverse that decision. Whether or not a nuclear plant operates on their lands, they are determined to reclaim and care for their land.

Nuclear Power Protest at Diablo Canyon | Earth Focus | PBS SoCal
Просмотров 1629 часов назад
Critics have been calling for the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant's closure for decades. In the 1980s, the plant's gates witnessed one of the largest number of arrests in the history of the U.S. anti-nuclear movement. Despite these efforts, the plant ultimately opened. But concerns over safety emerge again as California considers keeping the plant open after announcing it's closure in 2016. L...
How Climate Change Swayed Diablo Canyon's Reversal| Earth Focus | PBS SoCal

It was announced that the Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant would be closing in 2016. But climate change brought new pressures to California's grid that forced the state to reconsider. Californians ended up without power during extreme heat. In order to meet clean energy goals and to keep essential power flowing in the face of such events, the decision was reversed until at least 2030. Learn mo...

Was enjoying this video until one of the speakers felt a need to invoke "equity, people of color" buzzwords. Would have been enough to have said "we don't want to negatively impact anyone along the length of the river." With enough repetition, any agreed upon idea can become obnoxious. If you don't litter, and I tell you not to litter, you might feel a little bit insulted and annoyed. If you don't litter and I remind you 10 times a day that littering is bad and you shouldn't do it you'll likely feel even more annoyed. If you object to me preaching on the evils of littering and reminding you not to do it, I'll brand you as a litterist! The result in this situation is 0 progress on the litter subject and two very annoyed people. Some people haven't worked out these dynamics yet, but I'm rooting for them to work it out in their own time.

I was a young TV engineer, 27 years old on the opening night of the Inaugural Concert, 1974. That was old world technology. Took us several months to edit and release the full 1.5 hour concert via KCET Los Angeles. Carlo Giulini, conductor of the Vienna Symphony at the time, was one of most animated conductors I've ever seen. Just watching him on stage was an entertainment within itself. So into his music, there were times when it seemed he would become airborne, with the swing of his baton, which he swiped with the force of a warrior's sword, drawn in battle! No WiFi in those days. We had to string video cables several hundred yards up the hill to the TV studios, with barely enough voltage left to make everything work. We recorded all three nights of that inaugural performance. Good thing, as we had to cross-splice audio and video from different nights of the concert, so as to recover the full production. 50 years ago, but I remember it like yesterday! Bing Crosby lost his balance in an onstage performance a few years after the auditorium opened. With Bob Hope looking on, Bing clung to one of the stage curtains, as he dangled over the 17 ft. drop of the orchestra pit. And in his usual fashion, which only Bing could do, calmly said, "how do I get out of this one?" Finally lost his grip and fell all all the way to the bottom of the pit, but after some time recovering in the hospital bed, thankfully went on with the remaining years of his life. As Hope would say, "Thanks for the Memories!"

Looks like a win-win for everyone, especially if the plant keeps running. The tribe gets the land back, and CA gets a huge amount of reliable, clean power. The video is also a testament to nuclear's tiny footprint on the landscape, per kW-hr generated (9% of all CA's power, from a single, compact facility).

Best what they can do for asylum seekers and illegal immigrants are START a company UK/US/CANADA/AUS call center OUTSOURCED Projects, in Rwanda for black community and give them 5 years contract job and send them there as employees and give them salary range of Rwanda, so they can peacefully live and work there as UK/US/CANADA/AUS ASY-employees on work permit. START a company UK/US/CANADA/AUS call center OUTSOURCED Projects, in Mauritius( half French land) for white community and give them 5 years contract job and send them there as employees and give them salary range of Mauritius, so they can peacefully live and work there as UK/US/CANADA/AUS ASY-employees on work permit. PROBLEM SOLVED ( they will feel safe working as an outsourced employees for west companies as call center agents) Both are benefitted out of this and there is NO loss for anyone. If they like it there, they can work there or they can move to other place after 5 years.

They filled it in because it destroyed houses and infrastructure due to erosion and flooding. Why would you remove the concrete? It's there to protect people in the worst case scenario, even if it doesn't happen very often. "Better safe than sorry" is an expression environmentalists seem to know very little about. They have a track record of causing more problems than they solve because they can't think farther than their nose reaches. Glass bottle and paper bag bans led to an ocean full of plastic (which they now complain about), the nuclear power scare led to energy scarcity (which they now complain about), wind turbines kill birds and destroy habitats (which they now complain about), solar panels have led to a massive increase in global mining operations (which they now complain about), and on and on it goes.

The government is already occupying the most scenic coastal sections of property , still keeping much off-limits to us who live here. The entire Balboa Headlands adjacent to Santa Monica was never going to allow Chumash artifacts with archeological significance impede the demand for luxury condos . I wandered New Mexico and Texas to study pueblo migration patterns that got wiped out with military bases imposed on the living spaces they lived in. Salvage Archeology sums up the process of sifting through any remaining vestige of that critical period between 800-1200 ce. The question of safely storing 3,000 radioactive rods on site while shallow active earthquake faults are even more hazardous with fracking activities closing in remains an acceptable risk to PG&E .

PG&e should be in prison for the next 20 years though they definitely should not be operating this plant. Something else needs to be arranged because those guys belong behind bars for so many reasons that anyone who has two brain cells and is over the age of 30 in this state could attest to. Amazing that we are loaning these criminals money to do what they should be doing anyways. But I guess a relatively tiny political donation buys you billions and savings. That's why they do it. Newsome doesn't give a flying f*** about sustainable energy, he's bought and paid for like all the other political scumbags out there. We do need more nuclear but it's too bad that he would rather protect his criminal campaign donors then actually helped steer California in the right direction. We do need more nuclear but PG&e should either be paying out of pocket the way other energy corporations are or they shouldn't see a penny of it or be involved at all. The state of California could take over management or they could sell it to another responsible energy company if one can be found.
